FSA update on consumer CBD
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has announced some updates in their approach to the consumer CBD industry.
The key developments are as follows:
- The FSA continue to maintain that 10mg per day is the Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI), with some exceptions. The evidence behind this position remains unpublished.
- The FSA have established a ‘safe upper limit’ for THC in CBD products – 1 μg/kg body weight/day (0.07 mg/day for a 70 kg adult)
- Suppliers will be allowed to reformulate products where neccessary
- Suppliers will be encouraged to update their product labelling to reflect the FSA advice
- The FSA says the changes are not mandatory. Businesses not following their guidance are strongly advised to seek independent advice.
- The FSA has indicated they will begin to move forwards with product authorisations, having regard to their guidance.
