UK Medical Cannabis Industry Calls for Long-Awaited ACMD Review
The CIC is closely monitoring the anticipated publication of the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs (ACMD) report on medical cannabis, which has been expected to publish this summer and has yet to be released. The CIC made a submission to the call for evidence back in autumn 2025.
The report is expected to examine the evidence surrounding cannabis-based medicinal products (CBPMs) and could include recommendations to Government on improving patient access, supporting clinical research and addressing some of the barriers that have limited prescribing since legalisation in 2018.
While the contents of the report have not yet been confirmed, its publication is likely to be an important milestone for the UK medical cannabis sector. Any recommendations made by the ACMD will be carefully considered by Government, although not automatically adopted.
The CIC will review the report in detail and provide members with an analysis of its key findings, potential implications for patients, clinicians and businesses, and any opportunities for engagement with policymakers.
